Runebird

The Runebird is the first boss encounter in the Moonlit Forest and serves as the introductory challenge to the game's combat system. Found in the Gate of Life clearing in the lower section of the forest, this mystical bird-like creature is covered in glowing runic markings that pulse with arcane energy. It guards the path deeper into the forest and must be defeated before players can progress. The Runebird is designed to teach core combat mechanics — dodging, timing attacks, and managing ammunition — in a relatively forgiving encounter.

The Runebird attacks with forward lunges and sweeping strikes that can be avoided by circling around it continuously. Between its attacks, it briefly pauses — these are the windows to fire your Slingshot and deal damage. A few well-timed hits are enough to bring it down. Stay mobile, don't stop moving, and fire during the gaps. At this stage of the game, a Slingshot with a moderate supply of pellets is all you need.

Defeating the Runebird boss rewards you with the Runebird Fragment and unlocks forward progression into the Moonlit Forest. Its regular-enemy counterparts — smaller Runebirds — also patrol the forest in later zones, giving you plenty of opportunities to hone the skills this boss teaches. The Runebird is a fitting introduction to what the forest has in store.
