How to Enter the Moonlit Forest

The Moonlit Forest is Starsand Island's primary dungeon and exploration zone. To access it, you must first start the Exploration profession by visiting Zephyria at the Exploration Club. Zephyria teaches you to craft a slingshot — your primary combat weapon — and provides basic stone ammo.

The Moonlit Forest entrance is sealed by barriers with golden weak spots. Equip your slingshot and shoot the glowing golden nodes to shatter each barrier. This mechanic repeats throughout the forest as you advance into new zones — golden weak spots on doors, walls, and obstacles must be destroyed with ranged attacks to proceed.

Before entering, stock up on ammo, food for healing and stamina recovery, and any crafted supplies you can carry. The forest is large, and returning to the surface costs valuable time.

The Ten Zones

The Moonlit Forest contains ten zones that must be explored in sequence. Each zone increases in difficulty, introduces new mechanics, and contains unique resources.

1. Evernight Forest

The entry zone. Dark canopy with bioluminescent plants. Low-level enemies patrol the paths. This is where you learn basic combat — dodging, aiming, and managing ammo. Resources here include Moonstone fragments and basic forest materials. Straightforward navigation with few branching paths.

2. Gate of Life

A transitional zone with ancient stone architecture. The first Gravestar appears here — a checkpoint crystal that saves your progress. Activate Gravestars whenever you find them. Enemy density increases slightly, and you'll encounter your first environmental hazards like thorned vines.

3. Crystalith Hideout

A crystalline cave system. Home to the Crystalith boss (see the Boss Fights Guide for details). The cavern walls contain rare mineral deposits, and crystal-type enemies are resistant to basic stone ammo. Bring plenty of ammunition.

4. Dreamfall Garden

A surreal zone with floating islands and luminescent flora. This area is also a fishing zone — unique fish species live in the garden's pools. The paths become less linear here, with multiple routes through the area. Contains valuable crafting materials not found on the surface.

5. Azure Bay

A coastal cavern with underground tidal pools. Fire Arrow puzzles begin here — you'll need to craft Fire Arrows and shoot braziers in specific sequences to open doors and lower bridges. Stock up on Fire Arrows before entering. The zone also introduces aquatic enemies that attack from the water.

6. Mural Valley

Ancient ruins covered in murals that hint at the island's history. Both Fire and Water Arrow puzzles appear in this zone. Some puzzles require shooting water sources to fill basins, while others need fire to ignite mechanisms. Carry both arrow types. Enemy encounters become more challenging with armored variants.

7. Grain Haven

An underground agricultural area with overgrown fields. Unique crop seeds can be found here that aren't available at the surface seed shop. The zone is relatively calmer in terms of combat but has complex navigation with hidden passages through the overgrowth.

8. Darkwater Shore

A dark underground lake shore. Another fishing zone with exclusive dark-water species. Visibility is low, so bring or craft light sources. Enemies here are aggressive and hit harder than in previous zones. Water Arrow puzzles are prominent — you'll need to raise and lower water levels to progress.

9. Serenity's Rest

A peaceful zone that serves as the final rest stop before the end of the forest. Contains a Gravestar, resource nodes, and a camp where you can craft and recover. Use this zone to prepare for the final area — repair equipment, cook food, and stock up on ammo.

10. Moonlight Meadow

The final zone. A vast open meadow bathed in permanent moonlight. The Ruin Guard — the forest's final boss — waits here. The meadow contains the richest resource nodes in the game and is where the Luna Deer can eventually be unlocked. See the Boss Fights Guide for Ruin Guard strategy.

Gravestar and Gravecrystal Mechanic

Gravestars are checkpoint crystals scattered throughout the forest. Activating one saves your progress — if you fall in combat or need to leave, you can return to the last activated Gravestar instead of starting from the beginning.

Gravecrystals are consumable items that let you teleport to any activated Gravestar from the surface. These are crafted using Fluorite and are essential for efficient forest exploration. Rather than walking through cleared zones to reach your current frontier, use a Gravecrystal to warp directly there.

Camp activation also requires Fluorite. Camps are rest points within zones where you can access your crafting stations, cook food, and recover stamina. Each camp must be activated with Fluorite before it becomes functional. Carry Fluorite at all times — discovering a camp without the means to activate it wastes a trip.

Fire and Water Arrow Puzzles

Starting in Azure Bay, environmental puzzles require specialized arrows:

- Fire Arrows ignite braziers, burn away vine barriers, and activate flame-based mechanisms. Craft them using standard arrows plus combustible materials. - Water Arrows extinguish fires, fill water basins, and activate water-based mechanisms. Craft them using standard arrows plus water-infused materials.

Puzzles grow more complex as you progress. Later zones combine fire and water mechanics in sequence — you might need to extinguish a flame barrier with a Water Arrow, then ignite a brazier behind it with a Fire Arrow. Carry at least 20 of each type per expedition to avoid getting stuck.

Resource Respawn

All resource nodes in the Moonlit Forest — ore deposits, crystal formations, harvestable plants, and wood — respawn daily. This makes the forest an excellent source of rare materials even after you've cleared all enemies and bosses. Experienced players often do daily "resource runs" through specific zones to farm high-value materials.

Enemy encounters also reset daily, so be prepared for combat even in previously cleared areas.

Recommended Gear

Prepare properly before venturing deep into the forest. Here's what you should bring at different stages:

| Zone Range | Weapon | Ammo | Food | Special Items | |-----------|--------|------|------|---------------| | Zones 1-3 | Basic Slingshot | 100+ Stone Ammo | 10+ cooked meals | Fluorite x5 | | Zones 4-6 | Upgraded Slingshot | 50+ Stone, 20+ Fire Arrows | 15+ cooked meals | Fluorite x5, Gravelcrystal x2 | | Zones 7-9 | Advanced Slingshot | 30+ Fire, 30+ Water Arrows | 20+ cooked meals | Fluorite x5, Gravecrystal x3 | | Zone 10 (Boss) | Best available | 50+ Bomb Arrows, 30+ Fire/Water | 30+ healing food | Sentry Bots, Gravecrystal x3 |

General Tips

Activate every Gravestar you find. Even if you don't plan to return immediately, having the checkpoint saves you massive amounts of backtracking later.

Don't rush. Each zone has hidden paths, secret resource caches, and optional areas that are easy to miss if you're sprinting through. Thorough exploration in early zones yields materials that make later zones much easier.

Manage your inventory. The forest generates a lot of loot. If your bags fill up, use a Gravecrystal to warp back to the surface, deposit your materials, then return. Leaving valuable resources behind because your inventory is full is a waste.

Bring backup gear. Slingshots and tools degrade with use. Carry repair materials or a spare slingshot so you're not caught weaponless in a dangerous zone.

The Moonlit Forest is the largest and most rewarding content area on Starsand Island. Take your time, prepare well, and explore thoroughly — the resources and rewards hidden in its depths are worth every trip.
